Subject: Please Support Affordable Homeownership and Housing Stability in Oregon
Dear [Representative/Senator] [Last Name],
I’m reaching out as a [homeowner/client/donor/concerned Oregonian] to urge you to support critical investments in homeownership and housing stability in Governor Kotek’s Recommended Budget, and to pass legislation that expands access to affordable homeownership across our state.
These programs and policies are not just numbers on a page—they represent life-changing opportunities for real people.
[Optional: Share your story briefly—how housing support helped you, why this matters to you, or how you support this work – for example:
- "I was able to buy my first home thanks to downpayment assistance and homebuyer education through DevNW."
- "My family avoided foreclosure because of access to counseling services when we needed it most."
- "I support this work financially because I believe everyone deserves a fair shot at stable, affordable housing."]
I urge you to support full funding in Governor Tina Kotek’s Recommended Budget for:
- LIFT Homeownership: Critical to meeting Oregon’s housing production goals and creating more affordable homes.
- Downpayment Assistance: Essential for helping first-time, low- and moderate-income buyers overcome the biggest barrier to homeownership.
- Homeownership Development Incubator: Supports inclusive housing development, including much-needed workforce housing.
- Foreclosure Prevention Counseling: Preserves Oregon’s network of certified counselors who help families stay in their homes during financial crisis.
- Regional Housing Centers Stabilization: Ensures continued access to homebuyer education and financial counseling across the state.
I also encourage your support of two important bills:
- HB 3235: Expands access to the Amplify Oregon mortgage product for buyers of Community Land Trust (CLT) homes.
- HB 3503: Allows conversion of up to 70 homes into CLTs, preserving permanent affordability in Clackamas County.
These programs and policies are essential for addressing Oregon’s housing crisis and ensuring that more Oregonians can not only access homeownership, but keep it—building long-term stability and opportunity.
Thank you for your leadership and for prioritizing housing equity and opportunity for all Oregonians.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
